IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alexander "Sandy"
Middleton
November 20, 1954 – March 1, 2024
In loving memory of Alexander James Middleton (Sandy) we are saddened to announce his passing on March 1, 2024 at the Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital, with his family by his side.
For those who knew Sandy he had a razor-sharp mind, a wit just as sharp and if asked for his opinion would offer it…controversial or not and especially on the subject of politics.
He was born in Red Lake and worked in the gold mine in Balmertown and apprenticed at Griffith Mine.
He eventually set his sights out west, Fort McMurray and landed a job as a millwright where he stayed almost 30 years. He made his life there, spent years volunteering as baseball and football coaches.
During his last years in Fort McMurray, he returned to the High School Reunion in Red Lake and met his childhood friend Alison Trow. She moved to Fort McMurray and stayed there until he retired.
Sandy's lifelong dream was to spend his retirement years in his beloved Red Lake. After one year back he ran for municipal council, won, and spent 8 years working tirelessly for his community. It was the best part of his life here and was thrilled to help his little town.
His second passion became the Jr. A hockey team, the Red Lake Miners, that he supported and enjoyed for several years until he became ill.
Surviving family members include his spouse Alison Trow, son Alexander Earl Middleton, sisters Margaret Cahan and Alice Middleton, brother-in-law Craig Cahan, loving sister-in-law Nancy Polhill (Trow), brother-in-law Tom Polhill, nephew Grant (Kathleen), nieces Megan (Steve) and Leanne, and nephew Joel.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 8th at 1 pm in the Red Lake Royal Canadian Legion Hall. A private interment will take place at a later date.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Red Lake Miners through the Red Lake Chapel, Box 237, Red Lake, ON P0V 2M0 or directly to the redlakeminers@outlook.com
