Obituary

CALDWELL, ALLAN passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at the Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital in his 95th year. By his side was his long time companion Donna Gorrell, supported by his children.

Born in St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg on August 28, 1929 Allan grew up during the depression. He made his way up northwestern Ontario to work in the gold mines at 17 and the north never really left him. His career took him to Gold Mines in Madsen and Cochenour, Iron Ore mines in Atikokan and Ear Falls, and even time building the DEW Line on Baffin Island.

He raised 5 children and took pride in their successes in life, but remained independent and enjoyed his life in Ear Falls. With his participation in Minor Hockey and The Royal Canadian Legion he gave back to the community and made friends and comrades that lasted decades. Building his cottage on Wenasaga was his passion, his veranda was his place to be.

Allan is survived by his longtime companion Donna Gorrell, son Rick Caldwell (Evangelia) of Toronto, ON, daughter Lori Cuddy (Bob) of Northbrook, ON, son Ron Caldwell of Fernie, BC, daughter Lisa Martin (Greg) of Lansdowne, ON., 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his wife Donna Caldwell, nee George and daughter Luanne Mariuz (Sergio).

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 23rd at the Ear Falls Royal Canadian Legion Clubroom from 1 to 4 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ear Falls Royal Canadian Legion through the Red Lake chapel, Box 237, Red Lake, ON P0V 2M0.
