With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Angelo Masi on June 17, 2025, at the age of 90.

Angelo is lovingly remembered by his children: Lucy (Frank), Vittoria (Douglas), Carmine, Vito, Maria (Dale), Margaret (Kevin). He was a proud Nonno to his grandchildren: Nick (Leanne), Teresa (Michael), Joe, Nicholas, Madeline (Garrett), Mikaela (Leigh), and Hugh (Kiera); and 7 greatgrandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers and one sister. Angelo was predeceased by his beloved wife, Giuseppina, and his grandson, Colton.

Born on August 18, 1934, in Castelgrande, Italy, Angelo immigrated to Canada in December 1965 with his wife, who was nine months pregnant at the time, and their three young children. Their journey across the Atlantic to Halifax marked the beginning of a new life in Red Lake, Ontario, where they would later raise a family of six children.

Angelo worked underground in the local gold mines for 19 years and was employed at Campbell Mine until 1984, when a back injury forced him into early retirement. Despite this, he remained a dedicated provider, ensuring there was always a roof overhead and food on the table—often shared generously with anyone who stopped by, especially from his flourishing garden.

He was a strong man with a spirited personality and proud of his Italian roots. He taught us the value of humility, hard work, and putting family first.

Dad, you have left a huge hole in all our hearts. We are forever grateful that you were able to live your life to the very end in the house that you made our home. Your presence will be especially missed at the kitchen table over a glass of wine and an Italian card game of scopa; while listening to your life experience stories filled with so much wisdom, humour and common sense.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 23 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John the Apostle Parish Catholic Church, with Father Justin Eze officiating. Interment to follow at the Red Lake Cemetery.
