In loving memory of Barbara Ballnik (nee Schiller) who passed away peacefully
on October 21, 2012at the Rainycrest Longterm Care at the age of 96.

Barbara is survived by her son Michael Joseph Ballnik (Barbara) of Burditt Lake , her grandchildren Dawn Allison Dumontier (Christopher) of Winnipeg, and Michael Gordon Ballnik (Jamie) of Seattle. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Joseph Christopher & Jaimie Marie Dumontier, Jesse Ballnik and her God Daughter Susan Hachey (Fahlgren). She was predeceased by her husband Mike in 1988.

Barbara was born June 21, 1916 in Sarca Barat, Yugoslavia. At the age of 11 Barbara, her parents and two younger brothers left Yugoslavia in 1927 to come to Canada to settle in Winnipeg. Here she met Mike Ballnik, they went to Red Lake, and married on Halloween Day 1939. They settled in Cochenour and Barbara lived there until 2009. Known as Granny "B" to many she was well known for her cooking in particular butter tarts, cookies and tortes. Her yard and lawn where immaculate and in the winter she shoveled the sidewalks as soon as it snowed. She enjoyed walking and would sometimes walk from Cochenour to the Lakeview Cafe in Red Lake. Most mornings you could find her at Haywards Marina for coffee and some interesting conversation. In 2009 she had to give up her home and moved to The Rainycrest in Fort Frances. She enjoyed being at Rainycrest and made new friends.
