Obituary

Brian Francis McQuarrie passed away suddenly at his home in Balmertown, Ontario on Sunday, April 8, 2018 after a brave battle with diabetes renal failure and renal dialysis for several years.

Born July 2, 1961 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, he was the only son of Donald F. and Gladys (Travis) McQuarrie of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
Brian is survived by his beautiful wife of 20 years Nga Ly, her uncle and aunt Hai and My, his parents Donald & Gladys McQuarrie, his maternal grandmother Joyce Travis, three sisters, MaryAnne (Bill Grady) Dartmouth, N.S., Elaine (James Kerr) of Glace Bay, N.S., Darlene (Tim Higgs) of Goodwood, N.S., 1 nephew Mitchell Johnson, several aunts, uncles and cousins in Nova Scotia as well as several family members in Vietnam. He was predeceased by his hero Uncle Donnie Sandeson as well as his mother-in-law and father-in-law.


Brian graduated from Charles P. Allan High in Bedford, Nova Scotia and Dartmouth Vocational School accounting program. He also earned a CIIA, CYA and CPA from Arctic College. He travelled to Yellowknife, NWT in 1981 to work for Arctic Co-op followed by several posts in the N.W.T., Nunavut and Winnipeg. He was currently Treasurer of the Municipality of Red Lake, Ontario for the past 9 ½ years.

Brian was a NASCAR fan, especially Richard Petty #43 and the Earnhardt's Sr. and Jr. He loved antique Studebakers and was Editor of the clubs National newsletter. He also collected stamps, coins, license plates and was a computer gamer.

A private visitation will take place with cremation to follow. A memorial service will be held in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia at a later date.
