David Raymond Solomon of Red Lake, Ontario, died peacefully at Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was 83 years old. Dave is survived by his daughter Kathy (John) Holmes of Ottawa, Ontario; his son Dave Jr. (Joanne) Solomon of Red Lake, Ontario; his very special niece Joanne (Bob) Aiken of Red Lake, Ontario; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Eva Solomon (Desjardins).Dave was born on June 18, 1932 in Ottawa Carleton, where he spent his early years. As a young man, he served in the Armed Forces, and received his training as a millwright through his work at various mines in BC, Ontario and Quebec. Dave settled in Ear Falls in 1968, where he met Eva by crashing into her car. They later married and worked together at Griffith Mine for many years until its closing in 1986. After Griffith Mine he was employed at Campbell Mine, and then at the Red Lake Airport until his retirement.Dave Solomon cared deeply for family, friends, and community. He devoted many years of service to anyone that needed a ride or a helping hand. He was always a willing listener, and shared freely of his wisdom from his life experiences. He was actively involved with the Alzheimer Society, Lion's Club, Legion, Pioneer Club and the Lutheran Church. Dave loved the outdoors, spending many happy hours fishing on the Aiken's houseboat, as well as nurturing his tomato plant and onions on his deck.Dave will be remembered as a kind and generous man, who gave selflessly. He will be sorely missed by all who were lucky to know him.A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, July 30th at 11 am in the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church with Reverend Michael Montague officiating.
