It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis William Stastook, who passed peacefully in his sleep on October 9th, 2025, at the age of 78, at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Born on May 28, 1947, in St. Boniface, Manitoba, Dennis lived a life full of adventure, hard work, and love. His career spanned various remote dredging jobs, operating bulldozers for Ear Falls Contracting, and eventually becoming a successful small business owner of Smitty's. He was a proud outdoorsman, passionate about hunting and fishing, and a devoted sports enthusiast who never missed a chance to catch a game—whether live or on TV.

One of Dennis's proudest accomplishments was the home he built on the English River and Lac Seul, a place that reflected his love for nature and the outdoors. He also had a deep passion for travel, exploring destinations like Hawaii, Florida, Nevada, and New Orleans. But above all, Dennis cherished the family he built with his beloved wife, Jo-Anne, who predeceased him on August 20th, 2013. His love for his grandchildren was boundless, and he made countless trips to Alberta to be with them.

Dennis is survived by his sisters Judy Dranski and Sharon Smiegielski and their families; his sons Daryl and Justin Stastook and their families. He will be remembered for his warmth, strength, and unwavering dedication to those he loved.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 17th, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the Ear Falls Legion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Memory In Miles in Dennis's memory.
