Donald (Don) David Gagne, 71, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, November 1st, 2019, at the Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital, with his son by his side.
Don was born on April 6th, 1948 in Emo, Ontario, to George and Isabelle (Grouette) Gagne. On July 5th, 1969, he married the love of his life, Jean (Bulawka) Gagne in Balmertown, Ontario. They celebrated 50 wonderful years together this past summer, surrounded by family and dear friends. Don is predeceased by his parents George and Isabelle; as well as his sister, Solange Gagne, who passed away at birth.
Don enjoyed grooming the snowmachine trails in the area as a faithful, dedicated volunteer for the Red Lake District Trail Masters. He loved the outdoors and snowmachining, fishing and hunting. Camping at Coli Lake campground with his family and friends brought him so much joy. He spent 51 years mining underground in the Red Lake District. He had a strong work ethic that he instilled in both of his children. He was also a dedicated volunteer firefighter for 30 years.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Jean (Bulawka) Gagne; along with his two children; Rachelle Gagne of Red Lake, Ontario, and David Gagne of Balmertown, Ontario; as well as his brother, Paul (Linda) Gagne, and sisters, Linda (Larry) Rothwell and Michelle (Leonard) Bourre; and many loving, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and relatives who loved their Uncle Don. He is also survived by his four-legged grandson, Gunner, who he enjoyed taking for walks around town and who also got to go for rides in his Denali for TimBits.
A special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital for their loving care and support during his final days. Thank you to Tracy Pryndik at the Red Lake Funeral Chapel. The family would also like to extend their sincerest gratitude to Dr. Diane Zielke. No words can express their appreciation for her excellent care over the last year.
A private celebration of his life will be held.
Donations in his memory may be made to The Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Hospital Foundation through The Red Lake Funeral Chapel, Box 237, Red Lake, ON P0V 2M0.
