Doug passed away in his home on the morning of January 13th, 2023, after a lengthy battle with various health issues. He spent his last days surrounded by the love of his life, Sandy Marshall, and his two children Marshall and Meaghan Gowler, for which he was a very proud father.
Doug was born on February 28th, 1957, to Bob and Connie Gowler. He spent the majority of his young life growing up in Ear Falls, Ontario. He always had tales to tell about the people he encountered, his family's history in the area, and the mischief he got into during his time there. He went through a great deal throughout his life, and would take an opportunity to share a story or a valuable life lesson.
Though he never strayed far from the area, Doug made countless connections and memories within the Red Lake region. He consistently made an impact on everyone he met, which seemed to grow with every subsequent interaction. Doug was commonly described as the life of the party, always having a one-liner ready to go for any situation imaginable.
Doug was one of the last great Mechanics. He was always happy to mentor others on how to fix something the right way. As many people in this town can attest to, he was a very honourable worker. Above all else, he just wanted to help. No matter the problem thrown his way, he was committed to finding a solution.
At the end of his life, Doug was an admirable husband, a father who did whatever in his power to give a great life to his children, an uncle, brother and cousin, and a bright light in the lives of many.
Cremation has taken place and a public celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 15th at the Red Lake Royal Canadian Legion at 1 pm with Tracy Gowler officiating. A private interment will follow at a later date.
Donations in memory of Doug will be used to create a student mechanical bursary at the Red Lake District High School. Please send your donations by cheque to Red Lake Funeral Chapel, Box 237, Red Lake, ON P0V 2M0 or etransfer to rlfuneralchapel@shaw.ca. Password Dgowler
