Obituary

Sam was born in Fort Frances, Ontario on January 4, 1951 to Bill and Beatrice Magel and was the oldest of six children.

The family moved to Red Lake in 1964 where he attended local schools. As a young man, he worked at the Coca-Cola Bottling Plant and after high school, Sam went to work in the Mines. He worked in Mining for most of his adult life starting out working underground and later on as a Cage Operator.

He met and married Louise Wood in 1971 and they had 2 sons, Earl and Richard.

Sam enjoyed spending time in the outdoors hunting, fishing and berry picking. He had many fond memories of his younger years spent on Rainy Lake with his siblings, cousins and extended family. Many hours were spent in his old Toyota truck driving and exploring bush and logging roads. He wasn't opposed to the occasional monster bingo as well.

He was predeceased by his father Bill (1995), his mother Beatrice (2011) and his sister Diane (2017).

Sam is survived by his sons Earl and Richard, grandchildren Paige, Nicholas, Rebecca and Marcus as well as a great grandchild Edwin. He is also survived by his brother Lyle, sisters Amanda (Bill), JoAnn and Betty Ann (Terry) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place with interment to follow at the Red Lake Cemetery on August 22, 2025 at 11:00 am.

Everyone is invited to join the family for a light come and go lunch at the Super 8 on August 22, 2025 between 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
