Obituary

Eileen Roberta Senek, nee Schmidt passed away in the early morning hours on January 31 at the age of 84 years. She was living in Creston in the Swan Valley care home. Eileen was born December 30, 1939, to Anthony and Caroline Schmidt. Eileen was the second of 7 children and grew up on the family farm in Melville Saskatchewan in a 3-bedroom home heated by coal and wood. They travelled to school 3 miles in a closed sleigh pulled by horses.

Days on the farm consisted of bringing in the wood, milking the cows, digging potatoes in the fall and churning butter. They swam or skated in a pond across from the farm, picked wildflowers, and played games by kerosene lamp in the evenings. Eileen could also be found playing accordion in her spare time. Her generation was the last to live on the farm and she moved to the city after marrying John Senek in 1958.

John was a carpenter and they had 3 children in 3 years with the fourth arriving a few years later. Her and John built their home side by side in Esterhazy Saskatchewan. Eileen kept a spotless house and there were always donuts and baking on special occasions. She was known in the family for her fried chicken and potatoes.

They lost their home in Saskatchewan in 1971 and moved to the Red Lake Ontario area (Madsen and Balmertown) to be close to Johns' family and for work. They both worked at the gold mine until John's death in 1977. They both enjoyed bowling and going out on the lake fishing from the houseboat.

After John passed Eileen moved around a bit and eventually settled in beautiful Creston BC where she bought a house.

Eileen was predeceased by her two younger sisters, Lorraine and Margaret, her brother, Ken and her parents. She is survived by 3 brothers, Richard, Herb, and Victor. She is also survived by her 4 children, Brenda and Martin Drager, Linda and Terry Payne, Wayne Senek and Wendy and Geoff Louks. She has seven grandchildren, Jarette Senek, Kael and Jacey Drager, Aiden and Tyler Louks and Hunter and Charlie Senek. She also leaves behind 5 great grandchildren, Gavyn, Kala and Levi Drager and Xavier and Ella Plouffe.

Eileen will be buried in a private family ceremony in Brandon Manitoba at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to:   Alzheimer Society of Canada.
