Obituary

A much-loved Father, Grandfather, Brother, Brother-in-law, Favorite Uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. It is with broken hearts that the family of Glen announces that he has lost his courageous battle with Cancer.

Predeceased by his parents Charlie and Marry Marks, brother Lorne(Lori still in Red Lake), numerous Aunts and Uncles, and cousins.
Glen is survived by his son Daniel, Grandson, and Treasure Theo. Daughter Kassie(Nick), Sister Wendy(Ron), Nephew Matthew, and Niece Kaitlin, Brother Brent(Liane), Sister in law Lori, numerous Aunts and Uncles and cousins many in the Red Lake Area, Cousin and best friend Michael Chopek (Diane),  long-time friend Ken McGowan (MaGoo), and his hockey brothers, and hockey family on the mainland of Vancouver area.

Glen grew up in Red Lake, where he and his siblings all attended St. John's Separate School.  He was an altar boy; his relationship with God never wavered.  Glen still read his bible daily and would comfort and offer hope to friends in dire circumstances.  As a young man, Glen was involved in many sports, baseball, under the keen eye of his Uncle Joe Pitura, track and field, he tried football in high school; however, because of his slight build, he found he got to beat up, his favorite sport Hockey, again under the watchful eye of Uncle Joe.  It was when he filled out and noticed girls that he decided sports were not his major interest any longer.  Lorne and Glen, together, ran the outdoor skating rink in Red Lake for a few years, making the ice and doing maintenance.  Additionally, Glen bought a skate sharpener; they also managed the concession booth, sometimes letting the little sister run it while they were busy repairing ice.  He worked hard and finally saved up enough to buy his TNT.  Like most people from Red lake he loved the outdoors, many summers he packed up the kids and headed to the North Western Ontario home away from home. While on vacation he could be found doing carpentry for his elderly Aunts.  He would never consider taking money from them, instead enjoyed being fed perogies, cabbage rolls and lots of good homemade food.  His kids were always with him, his assistants.  Glen was never afraid of hard work, he took pride in every job he did, if it was not the way he visioned it, he would keep working at it until it was a job he could be proud of. Many of his clients appreciated his eye for detail, his creativity, patience and guidance.
I mentioned he played hockey, he started playing again and was still playing twice a week up until 2 weeks before he was diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer.  Feeling terrible he still managed to show up at the rink.   With his Senior friends they enjoyed being competetive and it was fun being able to keep up with men half their age.  They loved competing with those young "Whippersnappers"  He had a close bond with Craig, Danny, Keith and Bobbio, and it was his hockey family who took him to the ER in Richmond BC.  Once he was diagnosed he was admitted to hospital.  His devoted daughter Kassie never left his side.  When he was released Kassie took him home to the Comox Valley where her and Nick and Nick's parents took him to all his appointments and administered his medications.  Sometimes it takes a village, and he had plenty of love and support in Courtenay.  The last week Glen was taken to Courtenay Hospice, a beautiful facility with lots of windows, an amazing view, a private patio where he could sit and get fresh air, and amazing nurses who took good care keeping him comfortable. On July 10th Glen took his final breath with Kassie and Nick at his side.  He died the same way he lived, with dignity and pride and on his own terms.  He left us making sure we knew how he felt about us.  I was honored to spend some quality time with him, and nothing was left unsaid.  Brent and I both felt blessed to have had such amazing brothers as Lorne and Glen.  They may be gone but we have a lifetime of beautiful memories to carry us through, both Lorne and Glen will never be forgotten.

There will be no service.  Glen was creamated and will make his final journey home in the near future with Kassie.
