Peacefully, on Saturday, August 30, 2014, with her eldest and youngest daughters at her side, (Dora) Isabelle Adams nee Westley of Balmertown passed away at Northwood Lodge in Red Lake, Ontario in her 98th year.
She was predeceased by her husband Manley Foster Adams (2003), her brother Frank Edgar Westley (1985), her mother Annie Mabel Westley (1968), and her father Harry Westley (1952).
Isabelle is survived by her daughters Carol (Brent) Smith of Balmertown; Joyce Adams of St. Albert, Alberta; June (Tim) Bryson of Calgary, Alberta; and Phyllis (Dennis) VanDusen of Balmertown, Ontario; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, as well as two sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and their families.
Isabelle was born on May 9, 1917 in Swift Current Saskatchewan, and received her education in Regina Saskatchewan.
In 1941 she moved to Toronto and worked for #1 Training Command RCAF. She was a paid soloist in the choir at the Metropolitan United Church there and also took part in many Gilbert and Sullivan musicals.
She married Manley in Toronto on December 27th, 1947; and following a honeymoon at Niagara Falls, they began their married life at Balmer Lake.
Isabelle and Manley were very active in the early days of the United Church in Balmertown. Her love of music, and voice training led her to play piano and organ for many church services, and sing for weddings and social gatherings. She taught piano out of the family home, and as her family grew older, Isabelle worked at the Balmertown Hudson Bay store, and later for the town office in Balmertown. As years went by, Isabelle also worked in various businesses in Red Lake as a bookkeeper. She enjoyed travel, social outings, sewing, knitting, playing golf, bridge, and curling in the winter.
Retiring to London, Ontario, in 1978, they returned to Balmertown in 1993.
Isabelle was a resident of Northwoods Lodge since 2002 where she received excellent care.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Red Lake United Church, Red Lake Ontario with interment to take place at a later date.
