Jack was born February 21, 1941 in Dauphin, Manitoba. He was the second of five children to Edna and Curly McEwen. He passed away on July 24th, 2017 at Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.
In 1956 at the age of 15 his family moved to Balmertown from Red Lake where he was to soon meet the future love of his life Georgina. At the tender age of 18 they were married and started a family. In August 1959 they had their one and only son Ray, who was soon followed by Charlene in 1960, Janice in 1961, and Geradine in 1963. Amidst the baby chaos Jack began his career as a Journeyman Electrician. He became certified and dedicated the next 22 years of his life to Dickenson Mine. In 1979 he continued his career at Campbell Red Lake Mines, where he worked for 21 years before retiring in 2000.
Jack worked very hard to provide for his family. He passed on his good work ethic and family values to his children because his family meant everything to him. One of Jack's greatest pleasures was to spend time with his family at the cabin. Another of Jack's pleasures was his love of sport, which he transferred to his kids, grandkids and great grandkids, for whom he rarely missed a practice or tournament. He was an avid curler and golfer. For over 30 years he was a volunteer at the Balmertown fire hall.
Jack was an amazing, compassionate, witty and fun loving man who was dearly loved and will be forever missed by all who knew him. He truly was one of a kind.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Georgina of 58 years, children Ray (Cheryl) McEwen, Charlene (Greg) O'Donnell, Janice (Butch) Biedler, Geradine (Guy) Arn, 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, brothers Bill (Judy) McEwen, Murray (Barb) McEwen, Hugh (Audrey) McEwen, sister-in-law Mary Jean McEwen, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Don McEwen.
A celebration of life gathering will be held Thursday, July 27th from 2 to 4 pm in the Goldcorp Curling Club Loungewith a eulogy reading at 2 pm.
