April 11, 1939 – August 18, 2020
It is with great sadness that the family of Madeline "Tootsie" Thorpe announces her passing on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at the age of 81 years. Tootsie will be lovingly remembered by her brother, Gary (Kim) Lapierre; sisters Julie (Clem) Beaulieu; Georgie Martin; sister-in-law Emily Lapierre; as well as many nieces, nephews and her many dear friends. Tootsie was predeceased by her husband George, sisters Jackie, Evelyn, Jeanette, brother Ernie and parents Antoine and Alma.
Tootsie was born in Kirkland Lake, ON and married George Thorpe (The Big Shooter) July 15, 1961.
In 1963,Tootsie moved to Red Lake District to join George on their lifelong adventure. Tootsie loved her life in Cochenour/Balmertown/Red Lake. Together they created an extended family of lifelong friends. She had many interests especially organizing social events & celebrations. Her family & friends share many fond memories of Tootsie's hospitality & special events. She prided herself in welcoming newcomers to the area where they eventually became members of their family of friends.
Tootsie enjoyed her career as a Medical Radiology Technologist and became Manager of Radiology at the Margaret Cochenour Hospital retiring from a 40+ years career in 2001. She served on many boards, notably The Margaret Cochenour Hospital Foundation & The Margaret Cochenour Hospital Auxiliary. In her early years, Tootsie was an avid curler and was President of the Women's Curling Association.
Memories are life's sweetest gift.
The family would like to share a special thank you to Dr. Zielke and Dr. Aniol for all of their friendship and care, as well to all the nurses and staff at the R.L.M.C.M Hospital.
As per her wishes cremation has taken place and a private funeral service will be held.
