Mary Arlene Elizabeth Smith (Irvine), 68, of Ear Falls, died peacefully on September 22, 2024 surrounded by her loving family at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre.

Mary was born on August 8, 1956 to Dennis and Margaret (Mae) Irvine in Camelton, New Brunswick.

She married George Smith on Feb. 8, 1975 and they were blessed with their first son, Steven George in 1979 and Ryan Dennis in 1985.

Mary was happiest when spending time outdoors, especially fishing or sitting around the campfire at the cabin that George and her built together on Story Lake. Mary's greatest love was for her children and grandchildren, she treasured every moment with them.

She is survived by her husband George of 50 years, sons Steven (Erin), and Ryan (Marija), grandchildren Emily, Ava, Teal, William, Killian, and Isabelle, her sister Joan Klaus (Irvine), nephews Bryan, Joel, Wayne, Jory, and Cain, nieces Amy and Dacey. Mary will be reunited with her father Dennis, brother, Tom and twin daughters Jennifer and Joan.

The family expresses their gratitude for the exceptional care provided by the Red Lake Hospital and the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital ICU department.

A celebration of life will be held at the Ear Falls Royal Canadian Legion on Friday, October 25 at 1 pm. A private interment will take place at a later date.
