Reinhard "Rene" Ferdinand Franczak, age 60, unexpectedly passed away on October 2, 2022.

Rene was born to Polish and German immigrant parents, Adam and Luise, in Red Lake, Ontario. Despite his European heritage, Rene loved the Northern Ontario wilderness where he grew up, becoming an avid hunter and angler. In 1985, Rene met his wife-to-be Adele, and in 1993, they became the owners of Sunset Lodge in Red Lake, where they operated their business and raised their two children. Whether raising his family, running the family business, or playing sports, Rene excelled at everything he undertook. When someone was in need, he had a most generous heart, and when it was time for a laugh, he would pull off a legendary prank. In over 29 years of ownership at Sunset Lodge, they not only made memories but cultivated a space for memories to be made by others, touching the lives of many.

Rene is survived by his children Deanna (Russell) and Jeremy (Mikayla); partner Ozzie; sisters Doris (Fern), Irmgard, and Jennifer (Mike); brothers Alvin, David (Debbie), Alfred (Anna), and Robert (Saneepree); sister-in-law Wanda; brother-in-law Glen (Jo-Anne); mother-in-law Edith; and his numerous nieces and nephews. Rene was predeceased by his parents Adam and Luise; his father-in-law Grant, his wife Adele; sisters Christina, Marie-Luise, and Carol; brothers Rudolf and Peter; and brother-in-law Mel.

A loving father, husband, partner, uncle and friend. He will always be loved and remembered.

A funeral service will be held at the Red Lake Royal Canadian Legion on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at 2:00 pm with Kevin Miller officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date.
