Obituary

Steve Kudlowsky, a man who lived his life much like he played a round of golf - with a good-natured chuckle and a generous dollop of selfless sportsmanship, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025 in his hometown of Red Lake. Born on August 16, 1952, to Mychajlo and Lizabetha Kudlowsky, he was a beacon of loving kindness and a testament to living life to the fullest, despite his battle with cancer.

As the last leaf on the family tree, Steve was predeceased by his parents and siblings, but his spirit is carried on by his beloved wife, Margaret, his stepdaughter, Shawn Botterill, and her husband, Chris. His legacy also includes his two grandchildren, Easton, the future NHL goalie (no pressure, kid), and Emmy, who's passion is to become the most caring nurse this side of Red Lake in the future. Not to forget, Ron Jameson, the brother-in-law who always managed to snag the last piece of pie at family gatherings.

Steve's professional life was as rich and marbled as the cuts of meat he expertly prepared at the family-owned store. He was the go-to guy for the perfect steak until 1999, when the shop was sold. Yet, the end of one chapter marked the beginning of another as he found his second calling and the love of his life at Harmony Centre for Community Living. It was there, amidst the laughter and smiles of those he served, that he also served up his heart to Margaret, tying the knot in 2008.

A man of many interests, Steve was happiest outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing, or throwing stones at the Madsen Curling Club. He was a legend in his own right, not just for his curling prowess but for his ability to teach the game with such joy that even the stones seemed to smile as they glided across the ice. His love for golf was as deep as his dimpled golf balls, and he swung his way to being the Super Senior Club Champion, which, according to him, was the real 'senior' moment worth celebrating.

Vacations for Steve were like his approach to life: a cruise through the good times, with a preference for the balcony view. He'd say, "The world looks better when you're not in a hurry to get anywhere."

So here's to Steve, a man who loved deeply, gave generously, and lived selflessly. He taught us that life, like a good curling match, is all about how you handle the ice, the rocks, and the sweeping changes. And as for the game of life, he played it with a heart so big, even a Super Senior Club Champion's golf bag couldn't carry it. Rest easy, Steve. We'll keep the tee time open for you.

The family would like to thank the staff of Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital, the Paramedics that assisted getting Steve to the hospital. And a true heart felt sincere thank you to Dr. Vic Aniol for being with Steve every step of the way. And last but not least to Ken Imrie for all the hours he spent with him during his fight - thank you.

There will be a Celebration of Steve's Lifetime in the Spring, so please start thinking of those special stories to share.

In lieu of Flowers, Steve would like you to donate to Harmony Centre for Community Living through the Red Lake Funeral Home, Box 237, Red Lake, ON P0V 2M0.
