Theresa Emma Aiken (NEE Bouchard) passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 27, 2012 with her loving family by her side.
Theresa was born on October 14, 1919 in Fisher Branch Manitoba. She left the family farm at the age of twenty one to seek employment in Winnipeg. An ad in the newspaper caught her eye and as an adventurous young woman she boarded an airplane with a one way ticket- destination Red Lake, Ontario at that time a small mining camp in Northwestern Ontario. It became her home for the next seventy two years. She married George Aiken in 1943 and together they raised their four children in the growing community. Although she would often say she never intended to stay Theresa settled into life on Goldshore Road and became active in the community and her church. She was an avid curler and won recognition over the years for her beautiful flower gardens. She loved to knit and paint with watercolors. Some of her art accomplishments hang proudly in the homes of her children. While she was busy raising her family Theresa worked in various retail capacities. She is most remembered for her years with Eatons and Sears completing her retail career as manager of the Sears Catalogue store in Red Lake.
Theresa is survived by her four loving children Edna, Diane Hester (Martin), John (Penelope), Robert (Joanne). She was blessed with twelve grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters Irene, Alice, Margaret, and Eva and many nieces and nephews. Theresa was predeceased by husband George, her parents Joe and Marie Bouchard, sisters Marie, Lucile and Jeanette and brothers Armand, Roland, and Jerry.
Cremation has taken place and a funeral mass will be held on Saturday, November 10th, 2012 at 1pm when family and friends will gather in St. John's the Apostle Catholic Church in Red Lake celebrated by Father Cornelius Amaechi.
