Obituary

With heavy hearts, the family of Trueman Wilton Norcross announces his peaceful passing on April 20, 2025, at Victoria General Hospital.

Trueman was born November 17, 1936 in Assiniboine, Saskatchewan. As a young man, he made his way to Red Lake, where he met his beloved wife, Shirley. Together, they built a life, raising their family and giving back to the community they enjoyed.

Trueman volunteered as Fire Chief for many years, and actively contributed to local organizations like the Kinsmen Club, the Lions Club, and the Royal Canadian Legion. His work life was varied.  He worked as a butcher at the Hudson's Bay Company, served as a sales representative for Midland Fruit/Codville, drove bus for McLeod Transportation, and helped his father-in-law with the family plumbing and heating business. A number of summers were spent guiding fishing trips at Birch Point Camp. He took great pride building a log cabin at St. Paul's Bay, a place where good times and great memories were made year-round.

Later in life, Trueman and Shirley relocated to Mayne Island, B.C., where they owned and operated Active Pass Auto & Marine. Even there, he stayed active in the community through the Lions Club and the local fire department. In retirement they moved to Victoria, where he continued his service with the Lions and enjoyed a slower pace of life.

Trueman is lovingly remembered by his wife Shirley of 67 years, and their children: Darlene (Louis) Rouleau, Cindy (Lloyd – deceased) Moncrief, Dean (Sylvia) Norcross, and Colleen (Ivan) McDonald. He leaves behind his treasured grandchildren: Melissa, Travis, Leigh, Tyler, Brooke, Kailee, and Marijke, as well as his great-grandchildren: Ellie Mae, Jed, Hazel, Myah, Cameron, and Quinn.  He is also survived by his siblings, Maxine (Bill - deceased) Holmgren, Don (Jean) Norcross, Diane (Mike) Leury, and many extended family members.

Trueman is fondly remembered for his love of cards and board games.  These pastimes he shared with each generation of his family and many dear and life long friends.  His wit, wisdom, and love of games will be greatly missed around the kitchen table.

A private interment will be held at a later date.
